The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be building a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
