Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led observers to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game chances in a tight third set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
